Artist statement

My connection to music always informs my paintings.  I paint to music, and it is often to music I have performed, or will be performing. The two practices are completely bound together. One inspires the other in a wonderful loop. I’ll be listening to something and that somehow emerges on the canvas with the feeling I’m experiencing through the song. It’s as if the music is transferred to the canvas.

I have also found a new home in abstract landscapes. It fills every slot for me. I like the idea of merging into a painting. I like the idea of wanting to walk into the painting and be a part of it. When I was a child if I saw a painting that I wanted to be in- if I experienced that desire, then I would fall in love with that painting. People say they have felt this about my abstract landscapes.

Bringing vibrancy and feeling to people’s homes, and the idea that for a moment someone is lifted up from something I have created is what motivates me.
